The Ministry of Health has bowed to pressure and summons the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) on Monday, next week.
The latest development follows an ongoing nationwide strike by the doctors that was on its third day and the union’s Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah maintained that it will continue as planned.
The strike has however disrupted services in many government hospitals causing many referrals to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) which is also struggling to attend to some of its services.
Resources at KNH are now strained with the most emergency services being those in maternity. Other services have been postponed to a later date.
According to KMPDU, hey owe both the national and county government Ksh 3 billion and accuse the government of deceit in posting of interns which was last done in January 2023 contrary to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) which called for posting of interns after 30 days of clearance.
