The Ministry of Health has confirmed the closure of Omnicare Medical Limited following the demise of Ms. Lucy Wambui who underwent plastic surgery at the facility.
The closure follows a comprehensive investigation conducted by the Kenya Medical and Dentist Council (KMPDC) who confirmed that the facility had serious non-compliance issues.
“The inspection found that the facility was operating below the required medical standards, failing to meet patient safety regulations crucial for protecting the health and well-being of patients.” read the statement by Health PS Mary Muthoni.

The PS also noted that investigations are underway to know those who handled Lucy during the surgery before they can determine the appropriate action to take and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
Omnicare Medical Limited had already issued a statement confirming that they working with the authorities during investigation and that the patient had been discharged from the hospital after undergoing the procedure.
“Our team is collaborating closely with relevant authorities to ensure a full and objective review. We understand this is a challenging time for everyone involved. Out of respect for the family’s privacy and to allow for the investigation to proceed unhindered, we are unable to provide further details at this time.
We would like to confirm that the deceased successfully had her procedure done at our facility and was fully discharged from our facility,” they said
