A doctors strike at Moi Referral Hospital is set to kick off from Tuesday midnight after talks meant to find a solution failed.
Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists Dentists Union who had called the strike has been in talks with the hospital management to find amicable solution but nothing was reached.
“We have been in day-long meetings, but the management is just giving us unworkable promises, and hence the strike is on as from midnight,” said KMPDU official Dr. Kamunzi Mule

According to Dr. Kamunzi the strike will officially begin tomorrow and will be flagged off by KMPDU Secretary-General Dr. Davji Atellah.
Also speaking on the same issue was MTRH Chief Officer Dr Phillip Kirwa who said that they are still in talks with KMPDU to find a solution to the grievances they had raised.
“We are still in discussion with the doctors over the issues they have raised,” he said
KMPDU thorugh Dr. Davji Atellah had intially issued a two weeks notice to the hospital to either improve the quality of services at MTRH or else his members will go on strike.
“If the hospital does not honor our demands, then all doctors, including consultants, will proceed on strike as from midnight February 4th, 2025,” said Atellah
Plight by the hospital management to attribute the shortfalls to budget cuts from the exchequer did not convince the KMPDU Secretary-General. MTRH board has therefore admitted that they cannot afford to miss the doctors.
“Without the medics, we cannot offer services to Kenyans, and my promise is that we are engaging with the doctors and hope to agree with them,” said Kirwa
