Mombasa residents stone security personnel at Likoni Ferry

It was business unusual after residents of Mombasa threw stones at security personnel manning the Likoni Ferry after they blocked them from boarding.

The incident began after one of the Ferries had docked but not properly as required. The residents rushed to board forcing the security personnel to block the process until when it was safe to do.

Some of the boarders jumped through the walls before hell broke loose and the irritate crowd resorted to using stones to chase away the security personnel as confirmed by Kenya National Private Security Workers Union (KNPSWU) Secretary General Isaac Andambwa who spoke to Kenyan.co.ke.

Three guards sustained injuries and were taken to different hospitals for treatment.

Kenya Ports of Authority (KPA) has now been called upon to conduct a thorough civic education to all those boarding on matters security at the Likoni ferry crossing channel.

“The conduct at the ferry station should be the same as that we see in airports and train stations where announcements are made, and passengers are told to expect delays and are directed on what to do at such time,” he said

The union has also called for investigation into the incident and arrest those responsible. They also called on security personnel to prioritize proffesisonalism.

“We call upon the relevant authorities to investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure accountability. At the same time, we urge all security firms to uphold professional conduct and prioritise conflict resolution mechanisms that respect the dignity of all individuals,” said the union
