At least 1,500 motorcycle riders in Kitengela town have on Monday boycotted the arrest of their colleague by the police.
The arrests follows last week incident where the riders stoned the car of a female driver following an accident involving one of their own.
“NPS Officers (Kitengela Police Station and DCI) arrested 20 suspects and detained 26 motorbikes on 19th January 2024 in response to an incident that occured within Kitengela Township on 18/1/2024 when Boda Boda riders extensively damaged a vehicle and assaulted a male passenger.

The incident which was initially reported on 18/1/23 at Kitengela Police Station happened at 1930 hrs along Kitengela- Athi River Road when a motor vehicle Nissan Juke driven by Conex Kemuto Onengo allegedly hit an unknown motorcycle carrying one pillion passenger.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver then sped off towards Namanga and hit a male pedestrian injuring him together with his 4yrs old son.
She then drove towards the Old Namanga Road and hit an unknown motorcycle injuring his expectant pillion passenger. She then hit and injured another male pedestrian then drove through Tarmac Road, exiting the Shell Petrol Station at Enkare where the vehicle was blocked and stoned by rowdy Boda Boda riders.
Her male co-driver was also beaten and sustained serious injuries while the female driver escaped unhurt.” said National Police Service
The riders in Kitengela have now vowed not to return to work until when their colleagues are released by the police.
