Mozambique opposition leader set to install himself as President

Mozambique opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane has vowed to install himself as the President come January 15th after he rejected the just concluded election results.

The news follows violent protests across the country staged by his protesters who are against the 49 year rule by the Frelimo party.

On Christmas Eve, the capital Maputo was a ghost town as businesses remained closed with people staying indoor in fear of the deadly unrest that had rocked the country.

Protesters had caused mayhem at police stations, banks, Frelimo’s offices and factories setting them ablaze. As on Monday, 21 people had been killed as confirmed by the country’s Interior Minister.

Chaos started on Monday when the High Court upheld the election of Daniel Chapo after Venâncio Mondlane challenged the results accusing them of rigging.

Taking on Facebook, Mondlane rejected the results even though he is currently in exile in unknown country. It is still not clear how he will run the office.

“We are with the people. We do not advocate any form of violence,” he said
