An autopsy conducted on the body of Sylvia Kemunto, a Multimedia University reveals that she was strangled to death.
Confirming the news was Government pathologist Johansen Oduor who said that Kemunto, the first year student at the facility was strangled as she defended herself from the attacker.
“We saw injuries on the neck, which are typical of people who have been strangled. This indicates that the victim was deprived of oxygen at the time of death. Based on these findings, we concluded that the cause of Sylvia’s death was strangulation,” he said

The prime suspect in the murder Eric Mutinda revealed to the detectives the chilling details leading to the death of Sylvia Kemunto leading to his subsequent arrest afterwards.
On 28th March, the suspect is reported to have spent the night at her sister’s home, Miriam Waweru in Kasarani before leaving on Sunday after making arrangements to go for a hike in Ololua.
He was issued with rice to deliver to another family member before meeting a woman at Kencom later that day before heading to Multimedia University. At the university he interacted with two of his friends and requested for a chest bag to be used for the trip.
He later went to Kemunto’s room to retrieve the bag only to find her washing her clothes. An argument ensued as Eric requested for reconciliation which was turned down by Kemunto.
It was at the moment that Eric is reported to have strangled her with a hoodie rope and later transporting the body to his room using the bag. In his room, he placed the body on his bed and covered it with a blanket before leaving for a stroll.
He returned later and placed the body back to the bag and slept without informing anyone. At 4am in the morning, he moved the body to a school tank upstairs and left after removing her sim card but retained the phone which he gave as an offering to a church.
Eric travelled back home and when the news broke, he confessed to his parents who took him to Sultan Hamud Police Station where he surrendered.
