Murkomen reveals gov’t plan to relocate Matulo Airstrip in Bungoma

Transport CS Kipchumba has on Saturday revealed plans by the government to relocate Matulo Airstrip in Bungoma.

Speaking during this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations in the county, CS Kipchumba Murkomen noted that the move is strategic and that there is need to move the airstrip to the outskirts of Webuye.

He continued by saying that there is need to expand the airstrip and that can only be achieved in a place where there is more land. According to the CS, the move could eventually land the airstrip and airport status.

The CS noted that the new airstrip will receive alot of traffic as it will serve other parts of Western region and its neighbouring country Uganda.

“We are working to get more land so that we can expand it to 2.5 kilometres and we should get traffic flying directly to the airstrip.

We have removed it from the town itself and we have taken it off town to Webuye so that it can be expanded enough and serve the counties in this region and Uganda,” he said

According to Murkomen, the issue of acquiring the land is a priority by President William Ruto and will be discussed by the county leadership so as to come to an agreement.
