“I found him on the couch crying saying he was dying. Though he had a dark complexion, he had turned pink. His two children told me that acid had been poured on him,” she said
Efforts to rush him to Nakuru Level Five Hospital failed as he succumbed to the injuries that he sustained from the outside and inside.
Matoke’s brother Bernard Angwenyi confirmed that he was present at the hospital and that the wife was arrested after presenting herself at the police station.
“When my brother informed me what had happened, I called Kaptembwo Police Station. When she presented herself there, she was arrested. We then went to the crime scene with the police,” he said
Bernard also confirmed that after the incident Ruth attempted to withdraw money from Matoke’s phone but failed and that some of the victims documents were missing.
The deceased’s daughter Clarice Mughoi revealed that his father had informed her that Ruth had woken him up at 5 am as she perused through some documents. She then returned with a jerican which he thought had water only to realize it was acid after she poured on him.
“He told us that she left the bedroom and returned with a jerrican which he thought had water. It wasn’t until it was poured on his face that he realized it was a corrosive substance,” she said
Mughoi revealed that Ruth abused his wife that she had warned his husband against communicating with his children.
The incident has since shocked many who did not know that he was being abused at his own house despite being an active member of the community.
