A Nakuru woman has been jailed for two years after admitting to stealing a nine-month-old baby so as to please her husband.
The woman identified as Millicent Wambui told a Nakuru court that she stole the baby so as to convince her husband that she was indeed pregnant and had conceived a baby.
The court was further informed that Wambui had stayed in a marriage for many years without getting a child thus the need to impress her husband who really wanted a baby.
- Two robbery suspects arrested, stolen phones recovered
- Two arrested with 12 sacks of marijuana in Mombasa
Ï had not intention to steal a baby, but I had to do so to please my husband. I first lied to him that I was expectant before I took the baby home.” Wambui told the court
The court was also told that the husband who lives away from their Bahati home believed her and never doubted her that she had stolen the baby in the first place. He only learned of the incident last month when she was arrested for the crime she had committed back in October 2024.
She was arraigned in court and pleaded guilty to the charges of kidnaping and stealing a baby. Nakuru Senior Resident Magistrate Priscah Nyotah noted that the two year sentence should serve as a lesson to others.
The probation officer’s report also noted that Wambui was not remorseful for the act and would repeat the same thing again and if released on probation.
