A four-storey building under construction in Karia, Kirinyaga County has collapsed killing one person, a middle aged woman.
As at the time of the incident, the woman and her two children were asleep as confirmed by the deceased’s brother in law. The children were however rescued by their neighbours.
The brother in law identified as Edward Muriuki also confirmed that his sister in law was the one who sold the house to a trader who was building the house that collapsed on her as her room was the most affected one.

Speaking after the incident was Kirinyaga Central police commander John Torori who noted that they are still waiting for the house owner as well as the contractor.
“I would like to assure you that we are going to investigate this incident as we wait for the owner of the building and if we find he violated the stipulated rules of construction action will be taken,” he said
Investigation is also underway to establish the cause of the incident.
