Police in Embu have arrested one person and recovered 1,500 kilograms of donkey meat that was being transported to unknown destination.
The Toyota Hiace was intercepted along the Kiritiri-Embu Highway at around midnight by the police who were acting on intelligence report that they had collected.
It was during an inspection exercise when the police discovered the donkey meat put on sacks and 15 donkey hides and private parts that could be heading to a market for sale.

The suspect who was also the driver of the vehicle was arrested and taken to  Itabua Police Station where he will processed before heading to court.
Investigation into the incident is ongoing in order to unravel the source of the meat, where it is being slaughtered and it intended destination.
Health officials have also raised the alarm on suspected donkey meat in the market as they called on the public to be keen on the meat they buy.
“We are heightening vigilance to ensure uninspected meat is removed from the market to prevent the risk of infections,” said Embu West Sub-County Public Health Officer John Njagi
