Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has on Sunday denied recording a statement in Ksh 1.3 billion graft case that he has been linked with.
Oparanya who has been nominated for the Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development CS noted that he has never been invited or grilled over the alleged scandal.
“Nobody has come to take a statement from me. As I sit here I also don’t know what I am being accused for because I am also seeing it in the papers,” he said

- Stop prosecuting Oparanya through the media, say Kakamega ODM leaders
Speaking before the appointment committee of Parliament on Sunday, he said that the scandal has been one sided and he has never been allowed time to share his side of the story.
He further defended his track record for the past 10 years where he has served with integrity and has never stole any public funds.
“In August 2023 I was very active in demonstrations. I was called by someone and was told that the EACC was looking for me and I asked that person what being in demonstrations has to do with EACC.
I have served diligently for 10 years. We have had audit reports and there is none that pointed me as being a corrupt person,” he said
Both Oparanya and his wives are under EACC radar over the embezzlement of Ksh 1.3 billion during his tenure as the Kakamega County Governor.
