Police raid Jimi Wanjigi’s home over Nane Nane protest

the home of businessman Jimi Wanjigi was on Thursday raided by the police before he was later called to surrender over the Nane Nane protests.

Confirming the incident was Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli who said that detectives were investigating the incident at hand.

He continued by calling on the prominent businessman to present himself to the nearest police station even though they had already one suspect.

“There was one arrest and one motor vehicle managed to enter inside and they closed the gate. My appeal is that he surrenders to the nearest police station whatsoever,” said the acting IG.

Masengeli continued by saying that the businessman was under probe over his alleged involvement in the Nane Nane protests and that the police had trailed his motorcade before one was intercepted and the other made their way in and the gate closed.

“As we informed the public yesterday, our intelligence had indicated that there were security threats to our country, with criminals who had planned to infiltrate today’s demonstrations and cause havoc.

We wish to inform the public that today, we intercepted a personal motor vehicle Prado Model KDC 883R in Muthaiga, at the residence of Jimmy Wanjigi.” he said

The police confirmed that they recovered police communication gadgets and teargas cannisters among other items.

“In the vehicle, we have recovered 4 teargas canisters, two Motorola gadgets, seven assorted chargers for the pocket phones, and one mobile phone. Investigators are on the ground to ascertain more details,” said the acting police IG
