Namibia President Hage Geingob has on Sunday passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital in the capital Windhoek.
Confirming the news was the country’s Vice-President Nangolo Mbumba who noted that the Head of State died in the wee hours of Sunday morning and that his wife and children were at his side.
“At his side was his dear wife Madame Monica Geingos and his children,” he said

Last month, President Hage Geingob was diagnosed with cancer, results which he made public.
Following the diagnosis, his office confirmed that he will be leaving to the US to receive treatment and will be back on 2nd February.
Last year Mr. Geingob underwent an operation in the heart, years after confirming that he had survived prostate cancer in the year 2014.
Mr. Geingob came into power in 2015 and was serving his last term in office. His ruling party Swapo who have been in power since independence has floated Mrs. Nandi-Ndaitwah as it’s Presidential candidate.
