Alexei Navalny, the most fierce rival of President Vladimir Putin of Russia has on Friday died in prison at the age of 47 years.

Dmitry Peskov the spokesperson of Kremlin informed President Vladimir Putin of his death as investigation into the incident launched to establish the cause.

The statement is however different from what was issued by  Kira Yarmysh the spokesperson of Alexei Navalny who said she had no prior information to his illness and that she was heading to the town he was being held.

At the time of the incident, Navalny was serving a 19 year jail sentence and had recently been moved from Central Russia to the current maximum security prison situated above the Arctic Circle.

Navalny death follows a nerve agent poisoning he had recuperated from in Germany before he was arrested again as he campaigned against corruption.
