President William Ruto has appointed members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) panel tasked with recruiting commissioners.
Through a gazette notice dated 27th January 2025, the Head of State revoked previous members of the panel and in their place appointed Prof. Adams Oloo, Dr. Nelson Makanda, Fatuma Saman, Amb. Koki Muli, Evans Misati, Nicodemus Bore Kipchirchir, Andrew Tanui Kipkoech, Carolene Kituku and Linda Kiome Gakii.
The news follows calls by the opposition that the government is deliberately delaying the selection process to achieve its own agenda.
“On Monday, we hope to come up with a very clear statement about what is going on. In the meantime, within the IEBC Secretariat itself, there are terrible things going on, like procurement. They are testing the grounds,” said Kalonzo Musyoka
Previously, the government attributed the delay to appoint the panel to court cases some from Azimio coalition allegations that were denied by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka who instead noted the cases were filed by their allies.
