President William Ruto has on Tuesday issued a directive to the police after a five chiefs were abducted by suspected al-Shabaab militants in Mandera.
The five chiefs who on their way to attend a security meeting ahead of his trip to the county were abducted and are believed to have been taken near the Kenya Somalia border.
Speaking at Moi Stadium in Mandera County, the Head of State promised that he will deal with terrorists and that the abduction incident must be addressed.

”We will deal with the terrorists and that is why I have come with the Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli that no matter what happens that issue must be promptly addressed,” he said
According to the President, the terrorists were fighting back due to the good work that he been done by multi-agency teams in the region.
He continued by saying that the incident was also meant to scare him to cancel his four day working tour of the regions but to prove them wrong, he will spend the night in Mandera.
”Because we have shown our might against them and because they wanted to spread fear in this area, they went and abducted our chiefs. I want to promise the people of Mandera that the chiefs will come back home.
They thought that by doing the abduction of the chiefs, they would scare me into not coming here today. I have come and I will spend the night here,” he said
