President William Ruto has on Monday directed that National Youth Service (NYS) recruits undergo basic firearms training.
Speaking during the 88th National Youth Service Recruits Pass-Out Parade in Gilgil, President Ruto cemented his promise that the government will recruit a good number of NYS officers to KDF.

“The NYS remains indispensable to our efforts to enhance public service delivery and national security.
This is a 56% overall living to my directive that all security agencies must give priority to our NYS men and women because of their demonstrated discipline, capability and paramilitary training,” he said
The Head of State further directed the Ministry of Interior and Defence to ensure that NYS recruits under the basic firearm training as part of their course.
