President William Ruto has on Wednesday promised the disbursement of Higher Education Loan Board (HELB) fund by Friday latest.
During his speech, the Head of State admitted there have been issues with the system and that he had met the Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei who he instructed to disburse the funds by Friday.
President William Ruto went ahead to tell Kenyans that if the funds are not released on Friday, then they should contact him directly.

“Hapo kwa HELB kumekuwa na kizungumkuti kidogo, so jana nilikuwa na waziri anahusika…Leo Head of Public Service ameshughulikia hiyo maneno, na nimewaambia by Friday pesa ikuwe imetolewa. By Friday kama pesahazijafika kwa simu zenu mnipigie simu.” he said
The news comes at a time when many University students have complained about not receiving the funds even though they had applied for them.
Some expressed fears that their education may come to an end as they come from less privileged households and thus their dependency on the funds.
Most parents and students have also raised complains about the new university funding model saying that it is discriminatory such that it either rejects those in need or places them in the wrong band.
The effect of the new model is that it has forced many to either source the balance from other sources or shuttered the dreams of many.
