President William Ruto has on Thursday suspended the South Sudan peace talks that were being held in Nairobi as confirmed by the Head of State himself.
The news follows a meeting between the President and South Sudan opposition group that agreed under the permission of South Sudan government that the talks should be suspended until March 2025.

“Met the Opposition Hold-Out Group of South Sudan and agreed, at the request of the South Sudan Government delegation, that the mediation process that has been going on in Nairobi adjourns until March 2025 to facilitate consultations that will inform the way forward.” said President William Ruto
He continued by saying that Kenya has been facilitating the peace talks under the request of President Silva Kiir of South Sudan.
“At the request of President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan, Kenya has been facilitating the mediation process for the past 11 months in an effort to resolve the political stalemate that has resulted in a serious humanitarian situation and difficult security challenges.
The Opposition Hold-Out Group delegation was led by General Pagan Amum. Others were Gen Paul Malong, Gen Stephen Buoy, Gen Mario Lada, Mr Lual Dau and Dr Cirinho Hiteng.” said President Ruto
The news comes a day after the government was questioned over its involvement in South Sudan affairs and what it stands to benefit from there involvemen.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi revealed that the country was intervening so as to ensure peace prevails in the neighbouring country.
