President William Ruto rebrands SHIF to Taifa Care

President William Ruto has on Thursday rebranded the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) to Taifa Care, a move meant to restore trust of the fund to Kenyans.

Speaking from Parliament during the state of the nation address, the Head of State noted that the health fund will ensure its users enjoy effective and efficient services.

He continued by tearing down the repealed National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) saying that it only served a section of people, those who were employed and earned a salary.

According to the President, Taifa Care will serve all citizen upon its registration immediately after registration as he urged everyone to enroll immediately or at the earliest opportunity.

“Under Taifa Care, citizens are eligible for all services upon registration. I urge every Kenyan to take the most important step in securing dependable healthcare for themselves and their families: register now or at the earliest opportunity,” he said

“Taifa Care has undertaken an accurate costing of all healthcare-related goods and services, in order to provide timely, effective and efficient service to everyone,” he addded

“Once the transition from NHIF is complete and SHIF becomes fully operational, Kenya will have a healthcare system that guarantees dignity, peace of mind and equitable access for every citizen for the very first time in our 60 years of independence,” said President William Ruto

The Head of State went ahead and revealed that currently 15 million Kenyans have registered to Taifa Care and 60 percent of employers have enrolled for the service.

Since its introduction in October, the fund has caused problems among Kenyans who have been unable to access services despite paying for it. Many were forced to go into their pockets to pay for some services and products such as medicines.
