Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has cautioned Coastal leaders after they endorsed former Governor Ali Hassan Joho as the next ODM party leader.
Speaking on Sunday in Malindi, the former Prime Minister noted that such endorsements endanger the party.
He continued by saying that if such cases continue where leaders are endorsed based on their region will eventually cause a rift and split the party.
- The NADCO report will be implemented, says Kimani Ichung’wa
- Joho endorsed by Coast leaders as preferred 2027 Presidential candidate
“We need everyone in our team because that is the only way we can be strong. We do not want these campaigns that can break the party,” he said
“It is good that Coast has given their views stating that they want Hassan Joho but do not say that because he comes from the area.” he continued.
Raila challenged leaders from Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale counties to give their detailed explanation as why they think Joho stands to be the next party leader.
According to the former PM, when the time is right the party will hold a meeting and decide who will take over from him.
Present during the meeting was Mombasa and Kilifi Governors Abdulswamad Nassir and Gideon Mung’aro respectively. Also present was Senator Stewart Madzayo.
