ODM party leader Raila Odinga has received yet another boost in his race for the African Union Commission job after Somalia and Seychelles pulled out of the race.
The new developments will however see Hon. Raila Odinga battle it out with Mauritius and Madagascar who have also submitted their candidates for the same position.
The next phase of the process will kick off in February 2025 as AU confirmed that they have already received for successful bids including that of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

On Tuesday, Raila received support from German and UK High Commissioners who called for a strong and stable Africa.
“Had productive discussions with Germany’s Ambassador Diplo_Jazz and UK High Comm FCDO Neil Wigan on recent developments and my AU Commission candidacy. We all agree: a strong and stable Africa benefits us all. Grateful for Germany and the UK’s continued commitment to engagement.” he said
President William Ruto also held discussions with Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth on AU reforms and Kenya’s bid for the AU Commission Chair.
“Kenya and Mauritius will collaborate to advocate for reforms within the African Union to ensure it is fit for purpose. Had productive discussions with the Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth on AU reforms and Kenya’s bid for the AU Commission Chair.
Also had a telephone call with President Salva Kiir on the progress of peace in South Sudan via the Tumaini Initiative. We settled on the need to get all groups involved and agree on the implementation of the peace protocols that have been proposed.” said President William Ruto
