Kiambu County Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has withdrawn a bill had had sponsered seeking to review public holidays in the country.
Through a letter addressed to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, the Kiambu Senator noted that he had decided to withdraw the controversial bill that was on its second reading so as to focus on other important bills he is sponsoring.
“I write to formally notify you of my decision to withdraw The Public Holidays Bill, which I am sponsoring, from further consideration in the Senate. I note that the Bill is scheduled for the Second Reading in today’s Order Paper. However, after careful deliberation, I have decided to prioritize other legislative proposals that I am sponsoring, which I believe are of urgent and immediate national significance,” read the letter

In his other proposal to the house, Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa is seeking to have all bursaries consolidated so as to enable free secondary education.
“A legislative intervention I am championing to compel county governments to ensure balanced and fair distribution of resources and development projects across all wards.” he said
In his third proposal, the Senator is seeking to have counties set realistic budgets and targets as estimates is not the way to go.
The last and final bill is set to establish a comprehensive procedure on how to remove state officers from their various positions including Governors, deputy governors, county executive committee members, and county assembly speakers.
“Given the critical nature of these legislative initiatives and the need for urgent intervention in these areas, I believe that focusing on them will better serve the interests of the people,” he said
In his controversial Pubic Holiday Bill, the Senator was proposing to have the previous day to be declared a holiday i.e if a holiday is on Tuesday, the Monday should also be declared a holiday. Also is a holiday falls on Thursday, then Friday should be observed as a holiday.
“Where in any year, a public holiday (a) falls on a Tuesday, then the preceding day, shall be a public holiday or (b) falls on a Thursday, the succeeding day shall also be a public holiday,” read the amendment bill in parts
