Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has rejected planned salary hikes for Legislator saying that they never asked for it in the first place.
Taking on social media, the vocal Senator noted that the money should instead be channeled to needy children to support their education.
He continued by saying that the additional Ksh 366,011 on his pay slip should not be a priority since the country is grappling with tough economic times.

“We NEVER asked for any salary increment. Let that money be channelled to the needy children of this country who are not able to access education.
An additional Kshs. 360,000 to my payslip as a senator can not be a priority when we are grappling with such tough and unbearable economic times as a country!” he said
The sentiments were shared by Nyandarua Senator Methu who called on MPs and Senators not to accept the increment as it overburdens the taxpayer.
“I Never Asked for a Pay Rise. I urge other members of the Senate and National Assembly to reject the increase considering the President’s call to reduce government expenditure. Such an increase is untimely and will just end up overburdening the taxpayers.” he said
