A senior official working for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was on Sunday killed by robbers at her house in Utange, Mombasa County.
48-year-old Aisha Akinyi Abubakar was a senior IEBC official based in Kilif and was in charge of managing elections in the county.
At the time of the incident, she was with her 18-year-old son when the robbers ambushed their house at 3am. According to the police, the son was also seriously injured and has been admitted at a local hospital for treatment.

The police continued by revealing how they were called by the administration of Premier Hospital that they had received a victim of robbery with violence.
During the 3am incident, the robbers gained entry into the house from the kitchen by cutting through the grill. Armed with a crowbar and a knife, they stabbed Aisha and cut her head right above the eye. They also inflicted cut wounds on the son’s head.
They were able to get away with electronic devices including an Ipad, 65’TV, a sound system and a mobile phone which belonged to the deceased.
It took the effort of the son to drive her mother to Premier Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival as he received treatment.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
