South Sudan has issued orders shutting down all social media sites in the country for 90 days over alleged attacks of South Sudan refugees.
Through a statement, the government noted that the attacks led to the deaths of women and children which were then shared on social media without any regards.

“Recent upheaval in Sudan, that has exposed the South Sudanese population to unprecedented levels of extreme violence through social media posts.
South Sudanese refugees in We’d Medani, located in the neighbouring Republic of Sudan, were subjected to violent attacks resulting in the deaths of Women and Children, subsequently captured in videos and shared on social media without any regards,” read the statement in parts
Telcom companies in South Sudan also confirmed the news confirming that they have switched off all social media platforms for 90 days as ordered by the government.
This is the second time the South Sudan government has shut down social media platforms with the first time being in 2021 following protests calling for a regime change.
