Stop prosecuting Oparanya through the media, say Kakamega ODM leaders

ODM leaders from Kakamega County have called on EACC to stop prosecuting former Governor Wycliffe Oparanya through the media.

They called the agency to produce evidence before the court and allow the former Governor to defend himself and case dropped if he is found guilty of the claims.

The leaders claimed plans by the Kenya Kwanza government to take over control of the county and that will only be possible if they subdue Oparanya who they term as their spokesperson.

There are also claims that the government is afraid that Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya will one day vie for the presidency and that is the competition that those against him are planning to silence his ambitions now.

The leaders were speaking following allegations that a former County Governor and his wife are on the EACC radar over graft charges. Already Oparanya and his wife have been summoned before and released without pressing any charges.

“A former Governor and one of his wives, and a serving Member of Parliament and his two daughters are among the suspects recommended for prosecution in the latest EACC Quarterly Report published in the Kenya Gazette on Friday.

The two family graft cases are in addition to numerous others under investigation by EACC, review by the ODPP and/or prosecution in court where state officials have used their spouses, children, siblings, parents and other relatives as conduits to loot public funds. This turns the spotlight on the family unit, as the foundation of values in society.” said EACC
