Teachers across the country are expected to commence their strike on Monday following failed negotiations between the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET).
The planned strike follows a number of issues that TSC has failed to resolve include the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that is still in use.
A proposal by TSC to KUPPET of Ksh 13.3 billion being part of the CBA was rejected by the union which accused TSC of not listening to their issues as brought before the negotiation table.
Among the issues brought forward by KUPPET including better working conditions, promotions, and the harmonisation of allowances which the commission has failed to address.
“We have been negotiating in good faith, but the TSC’s actions show a lack of commitment to resolving the broader issues that affect our teachers daily.
When we meet TSC was not commetal to adress any of our issues we have tabled.” said KUPPET Secretary-General Akello Misori
As things stand, teachers and students have been called upon to stay away from school until when a proper solution is reached.
