The Inspector General of police must resign and Ruto must go, says Babu Owino

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has called of the resignation of the Inspector General of Police and President William Ruto following the ongoing abductions.

Through a statement, the MP noted that the statement made by the police IG denying police involvement in the abductions was blatant insult to Kenyans as it is a heavy matter.

“The statement issued today by the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, is a blatant insult to the intelligence and dignity of Kenyans. It is a callous attempt to downplay the gravity of a matter that has left families broken, communities in fear, and the entire nation in outrage.

The claim that the National Police Service is not involved in the abductions of Kenyan citizens is as hollow as it is deceitful. The experiences of victims, eyewitnesses, and grieving families paint a grim reality that is impossible to ignore. The IG’s attempt to absolve the police of responsibility without substantive evidence or transparency demonstrates contempt for the very people he swore to protect.

I categorically state that the Inspector General has failed in his constitutional duty to uphold law and order with integrity. His tenure has been characterized by impunity and a blatant disregard for the sanctity of human life. I therefore demand his immediate resignation to pave the way for credible investigations and the restoration of public trust in the National Police Service.” he said

He continued by threatening to use every lawful method to hold him accountable including the use of a censure motions through the parliament.

“If the IG does not resign, I will mobilize every lawful mechanism available to hold him and the National Police Service accountable, including parliamentary censure motions.” said Babu Owino

According to the legislator, the family of those kidnaped their cries will not go unheard but he will demand for answers until when every missing Kenyan is accounted for.

“To the families searching for justice, know that you are not alone. Your cries will not go unheard. We will continue to demand answers until every missing Kenyan is accounted for, and those responsible for these heinous acts are brought to justice.

We cannot build a democratic Kenya when those entrusted to protect us turn against us. The Inspector General must go, and he must go now.” he said
