The bodies of three people who had been trapped while unclogging an underground drainage in Makupa, Mombasa have been recovered.
“Following the unfortunate incident yesterday evening at the Makupa Roundabout in Majengo in which three people were trapped while working to clear underground drainage, our rescue teams working together with the Red Cross have recovered all the three bodies.
I offer my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. My administration will stand together with you during this difficult time.” said Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir.

The incident also saw four other people rescued and taken to Coast General Hospital for treatment.
“Four others were rescued yesterday and rushed to hospital, where three were later discharged as one is still undergoing further treatment at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital (CGTRH).
I urge residents to remain vigilant during this period of El Niño rains. Our call center lines remain open for any emergencies.” said the Governor
The Mombasa Governor also noted that the entire area will have to be dug so as to correct the existing drainage for better passage of water especially during the ongoing El Nino phenomenon.
