A Nairobi court has convicted tow social workers at Mama Lucy hospital for child trafficking three infants three years ago.
Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu convicted both Fred Leparan Makallah and Selina for child trafficking and neglect respectively after selling one of the babies for Ksh 300,000 and giving the other two as discount.
According to the court, the two knew very well they had a duty of care but acted in total disregard of he social workers ethics.

“The two knowing that they had a duty of care of these three children, exposed the children to abuse and therefore the two are guilty of the offence as charged,” said the court
It was established before the court that the incident happened between March 1, 2020, and November 16, 2020 and Fred received Ksh 300,000 from the journalist who was the whistle blower in the whole story.
Together with others not before the court, they conspired to committing child trafficking contrary to the law.
Both Fred and Selina will remain in remand at the Industrial Area and Langata Women’s Prison respectively pending sentencing on October 2023.
