University of Nairobi (UoN) staff and students planning to get a meal from the university will now be required to make payment via the e-Citizen platform.
Issuing the direct was the government through a notice to the university that all payments moving forward should be channeled through the online platform.
“The Kenyan Government has mandated that all payments to the University of Nairobi be made via the E-Citizen platform. Complying with this directive, the University has established the required systems to enable clients to make payments through E-Citizen. To pay for services, please follow the instructions provided below,” read the memo

The payments which are channeled through a single paybill number 222222 will see the students quote the Outlet or Live identifier in capital as the account number to indicate the kitchen he/she will receive the service.
The news comes a month after the government confirmed total transfer of all government services to e-Citizen as confirmed by Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u back in December 2023.
Recently, parents and guardians of students in secondary schools were the latest lot directed by the Ministry of Education to make student’s fee payments through the platform.
