The Vatican has made a historic announcement that will allow gay men become priests as long as they remain celibate.
The new adjustments made by the Catholic Church will also change guidelines that will see gay men join seminaries.
In the past, the Vatican did not explicitly prohibit gay men from joining the priesthood but people with ‘deep-seated homosexual tendencies’ had been barred from joining the priesthood from the year 2016.

Seminary directors have now been allowed in the new guidelines to allow one’s sexual preferences as part of their personality.
“When referring to homosexual tendencies in the formation process, it is also appropriate not to reduce the discernment to this aspect alone, but … to understand its meaning within the whole framework of the young person’s personality,” read the guidelines.
What remains to be seen is whether the new guidelines will be implemented in other countries especially those in Africa with deep culture.
From the year 2013, Pope Francis has faced a lot of questions on matters homosexuality and his responses have been welcoming to those advocating for it.
