Zimbabwe’s ruling party Zanu-PF is now planning to extend the presidential term limit of President Emmerson Mnangagwa by two years.
Revealing the new was the party’s spokesperson who did not give more details as to how they will implement the new term limit that will see the President rule to the year 20230.
As it stands the constitution of Zimbabwe only allows a President to serve two terms of five years and the current President is on his second term which comes to an end in 2028.
Speaking to Reuters was Zanu-PF’s director of communication Farai Marapira who said that they have the power to decide the term limit of the President even though he did not give details as to how they will achieve it.
“The issue of the president staying in power is a party position which has been agreed upon,” he said
Zimbabwe as a country has been under the longest rule of former President Robert Mugabe who came into power in 1987 and ruled until the year 2017 before passing away.
